Art Discipline: Sculpture

imageAcclaim for Carroll’s work began at 13 when she was awarded a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago’s Saturday program. In 1974 she sold her house, left her teaching position in rural Illinois to move back to Chicago, making her home and studio in a former charcoal factory.

At the Richard Gray Gallery she met her husband to be, the famous poet, publisher of Big Table, Paul Carroll. In 1993 she and Paul left their factory loft to move to a farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. It is in this beautiful setting that she continues to work with metal, ceramic, cast stone and resin sculpture incorporating poetry, sound and water, assisted by her English sculpture partner, Joseph E. Potter.

“The interconnection of nature, work, fruitfulness and the rhythms of the universe are enduring currents in Maryrose Carroll’s sculpture,” says critic Dennis Adrian.
